What is a ground school for pilots?

No Comments

If you are looking for pilot training online, you will see the term ground school for pilots in flight schools. It is confusing to understand at first what ground school is for pilots.

The ground school is what it means, and I will clarify it further.

  • What is the ground school for pilots?;
  • Why is ground school important for flight training?;
  • How long is the ground school for pilots?;
  • Can you begin flight training without ground school?;

What is a ground school for pilots?

During ground school, pilots learn the theories of operating airplanes safely and understand the fundamentals of aeronautics.

It includes understanding:

  • Air law;
  • Aerodynamics;
  • Aircraft engine and systems;
  • Aircraft weight and balance;
  • Safe airport operations;
  • Meteorology;
  • Aviation communication;
  • Navigation; and
  • Emergency procedures.

After completing ground school, a student pilot knows many basics of flying an airplane safely. However, this is not sufficient practically to operate an aircraft. This is where ground school training differs from flight training.

To operate an airplane, a student pilot must practice flying the aircraft.

Learning to fly an aircraft is flight training.

Ground school and flight training are two components of pilot training. You may think you can learn to fly without ground school training, which is true to some degree, but you will never be a proficient pilot.

Why is ground school important for pilot training?

Having fundamental knowledge of aircraft operations is crucial to conducting safe flights. The purpose of ground school for pilots is to prepare student pilots for incidents in the sky or during airport operations.

If a student pilot faces emergencies during flight and has no idea how to take care of the issue, the practical skills of a pilot can’t make any difference. Unable to solve the problem by the books, the pilot will endanger many lives.

You can’t learn to maneuver an airplane and how it feels on the control of the aircraft from pilot ground school, but you will know which input caused the output. You’ll understand the reasons why an aircraft behaves in a certain way.

Learning all these matters during ground school prepares students for the unknown and prevent unwanted incidents during actual flight.

This way studying numerous matters in the ground school during pilot training builds a proficient pilot.

Learning doesn’t stop at the end of ground school training for all pilots. Pilots keep learning more throughout their career by reading books, watching online videos, and from experience.

How long is the ground school for pilots?

Before obtaining a pilot license or a new rating, you must complete ground school specific to your request and rating.

Suppose you want to get a Private Pilot license, Instrument Rating, and a Commercial pilot license which are standard steps for any professional pilot program.

You would complete ground school specific to your pilot training stage before obtaining each license.

  • You will have a ground school for 2 Weeks to 3 Weeks for your Private pilot license.
  • Your ground school may take two weeks to a month for an Instrument rating.
  • Likewise, the ground school may take up to a month for a commercial pilot license.

All Part 141 professional pilot programs include structured ground schooling for pilots. Students often do ground classes and flight training simultaneously during professional pilot programs.

Hence, many times students say that aeronautical knowledge is overwhelming. Student pilots have to consume numerous information in a short time and perform well in flight.

As I mentioned regarding Individual performance, the length of the ground school also depends on the progress of a student pilot.

This progress ultimately affects the length of the pilot training.

There is no obligation from a flight school for students to finish their training in a specific time, but it’s in your best interest to complete the pilot training quickly and progress towards your aviation goals.

Can you begin flight training without ground school?

 You now know the importance of ground school for pilot training.

Regardless, it is possible to begin flight training before ground school.

However, completing ground school comes first in the FAA Part 141 structured professional pilot training program. After passing the ground school tests, you can start your flight training.

On the contrary, Part 61 student pilots don’t have such an obligation.

Nevertheless, I always recommend student pilots to finish their ground school quickly before flight training because you can’t pass the pre-solo test without ground school.

Your flight instructor will not release you for a solo flight unless you give your pre-solo exam.

It is crucial to get your solo flight as quickly as possible so that you will not fly extra hours to fulfill FAA hour requirements.

The sooner you complete your ground school, the sooner you’re ready for your first solo flight.

You can continue ground school and flight training simultaneously during your instrument and commercial flight training.

Another reason to finish your ground school quickly is to get the FAA knowledge test endorsement.

To get a license or a new rating, a pilot must attend and pass a Knowledge exam in the FAA. Without satisfying your ground school instructor, you can’t get an endorsement to follow the FAA knowledge exam.

Without passing the FAA knowledge exam, you can’t have a pilot’s license.

So as you can see, each step follows another to move forward.

Although you can begin your flight training without ground school, you can’t get your solo flight, nor will you get an endorsement to take the knowledge test.

IFR training course: Steps to know before you begin.

No Comments

A private pilot’s next step is to get an IFR rating. You must go through an IFR training course to fly in instrument meteorology conditions.

Here, I explained how to begin your IFR training and find the right instructor for the course.

  • What is an IFR training course?
  • Where to enroll for IFR training?
  • Three steps to IFR training course.

As you are already here, I assume you know how essential the IFR rating is. Private pilots don’t comprehend the importance of instrument flying until one day they cancel their flight due to adverse weather.

However, let me guide you on how to begin.

What is the IFR training course?

If you have a valid private pilot license, you can enroll in a flight school or train with an individual certified flight instrument instructor for an instrument rating. To get an instrument rating on your private pilot license, you must undergo IFR training. Without a valid license, you can’t register for IFR training.

During IFR training, you would attend ground classes. In your ground class, you will learn the fundamentals of instrument flying and understand the aircraft systems in-depth.

Once you complete your ground classes, your flight instructor will take you for actual instrument flights.

While you are still learning, your flight instructor will assist you in your flight. However, your flight instructor expects you to know all the private pilot flying lessons at this stage.

If you enroll in an accelerated IFR training course, the flight instructor will teach you things quickly. If you struggle with your private pilot lessons here, it will be tough for you to grasp the IFR flying lessons.

Thus, before you go for instrument flight training, you must study extensively at home and school to understand instrument flying.

If you think you are not ready yet for actual flying, you can ask your flight instructor about any question you have.

Also, you can study books and take online IFR ground school to ace instrument flying.

I might make IFR training sound challenging, but it is best to prepare well before your instrument flight training. Otherwise, you will spend more money on flight training.

Another option is to practice in a simulator. Simulator flying using Advanced Aviation Training Devices at your flight school and using a Microsoft Flight simulator at home helps you grasp IFR flying. You won’t have the natural feeling of operating an aircraft using a simulator, but practicing using a simulator improves responses and impacts actual flying.

Where to enroll for IFR training?

This one comes down to you.

Do you want to train in a flight school that offers structured IFR training courses? Either choose a Part 141 route or a modular approach for instrument rating at your own pace.

I always recommend choosing a structured course as it involves full-time training.

If you train full-time as a pilot, there is little room for forgetting lessons you learned on your last training flight because the gap between each training flight is tiny.

It’s common to forget things and feel out of practice by taking too long an interval. Repeating lessons on every training flight demands more tasks implementation in the sky and spending more money on fuel.

On the other hand, you can also select a modular course model to study at your own pace. It gives you more free time to explore the fundamentals of instrument flying and more time to practice using flight simulators. Yet, forgetting flight lessons is an aspect to consider if you enroll in the PART 61 modular instrument rating course.

Whether you train in PART 141, PART 61, or an accelerated IFR training course is ultimately your call.

Instrument flying competency is crucial to acquire from your IFR training course.

If you are highly knowledgeable about the theories of Instrument flying and detached from actual instrument flying, it’s unsafe to operate an airplane in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).

Likewise, incredible knowledge is essential on multiple subjects to operate safe flights in IMC.

How can you do that? By continuously learning using books and online resources and practicing numerous times using flight simulators.

I divided the IFR training course into four steps for any private pilot.

Step 1: Self-study for IFR training.

Start preparing for the instrument rating before you enroll in instrument flight training.

There are numerous resources available online. Yet, so much information can be overwhelming.

Choose a book by your favorite author or an online course from a popular instructor to study.

I prefer Rod Machado’s teaching style and collect Rod Machado’s books.

If Sporty’s is a better option for you, buy their course.

Before buying any course online, see if they provide you with an instrument knowledge test endorsement at the end of the course.

Studying before flight training is to understand what to expect in actual flight and, most importantly, pass the IFR knowledge test.

RELATED: How to study for Instrument Rating?

Some people may only prefer to read books. However, an online course is also a good option. Online IFR training course will teach in-depth without you getting bored. Also, it’s essential to have an endorsement after the course to take the IFR knowledge test.

Step 2: Taking the IFR knowledge test.

Now that you have finished your online ground school and have an endorsement to take the IFR knowledge test, use a test prep to practice for the IFR knowledge test.

There are many test preps available online. I prefer Gleim’s test prep but memorizing answers to the questions using a test prep is not the best idea today.

RELATED: How to prepare for the FAA IFR Knowledge test?

Always try to understand the topic clearly, and by doing so, you can interpret any variation of a similar question in the FAA IFR knowledge test.

Once you pass the knowledge test, you can confidently begin your IFR flight training.

Step 3: IFR flight training with an instructor.

At this stage, you can find a certified flight instructor instrument (CFII) at your nearest flight school or contact instructors online to come to your location and teach you how to fly using instruments.

You can sign up for an accelerated procedure if you want a fast-paced IFR training course. If you find an excellent flight instructor combined with the knowledge you acquired using the online course, you can quickly grasp the flight training lessons.

It’s good to finish the required instrument training before forgetting the lessons. It is a common problem for pilots to forget the materials they learned in their previous flight.

A good flight instructor can articulate essential information for students to remember forever. Similarly, I don’t think that an accelerated course is substandard as it compels students to study harder in a shorter time.

Nevertheless, if you don’t like the accelerated course, enroll in PART 61 flight training at your nearest airport and continue flight training at your own pace.

But don’t take too long to learn instrument flying as you will miss out on the excitement of IMC flying.

Once you fulfill the requirements of the IFR rating, you can request a checkride.

Step 4: Schedule an IFR checkride date and pass your checkride.

The last step is to pass your checkride as you fulfill the FAA flight hour requirements for IFR rating and are confident enough to request a checkride.

If you passed your IFR knowledge test and your instructor taught you adequately during the IFR training course, you can pass the IFR checkride without any trouble.

The entire checkride will be about two hours to three hours. The Designated pilot examiner won’t ask you anything beyond your familiarity.

The sooner you pass the Instrument rating checkride, the better it is. If you wait before requesting a checkride, you may become rusty and jeopardize your practical IFR test performance.

Once you satisfy the Designated pilot examiner that you are competent to conduct safe flights in IMC, you will have approval for an instrument rating on your private pilot license.

Private pilot ground school course to study for PPL competency.

No Comments

Many online private pilot ground school courses exist, and selecting the right one is strenuous for student pilots on a budget.

In this list post, I will clear all the confusion, and ultimately student pilots can pick the right ground school for them.

I listed online ground school for PPL here in two different categories:

  • The paid online private pilot school;
  • Free online pilot courses for PPL;

As a bonus, I also discussed how student pilots could utilize free resources and free ground school to pass the PPL exam.

Although online PPL ground school is less expensive than conventional ground school courses, online courses don’t fail to provide student pilots fair value.

Most importantly, you can study from your room at your convenience.

Best online private pilot ground school.

Multiple online PPL courses are decent to pass the PPL exams, but some are better.

If you don’t have the time to read through the whole article, you can see the following list of courses:

In the next section, I only discussed each course’s value and how student pilots can use the resources to pass their FAA PPL exams in their first take.

Rod Machado’s PPL eLearning.

Student pilots struggle to interpret aeronautical topics because everything seems unknown to students initially.

As time passes by, pilots acquire all the necessary knowledge.

You don’t have enough time to absorb all the information naturally from experience.

Thus an online private pilot ground school from Rod Machado can help pilots learn everything quickly.

By quickly, I don’t mean the course is fast-paced.

Commonly physical ground schools are fast-paced, and student pilots fail to keep up with accelerated ground school and naturally become unprepared for the PPL exam.

Rod Machado’s eLearning is not fast-paced because it is a comprehensive course similar to college semesters.

  • The detailed animated videos allow students to understand the exact details about each topic.
  • The animated videos are in natural language for student pilots’ better comprehension.
  • With short voiceovers and animated videos, student pilots will absorb all the knowledge by watching once.

Hence the course is forty hours long.

A course is essential to pass the FAA PPL knowledge test, but a well-structured course will help you become a safe and competent pilot.

Watching detailed animation will not forget the lessons for years to come.

RELATED: You can read a complete review of Rod Machado’s private pilot ground school here.

What is the best part?

The available resources for student pilots to practice what they have learned.

Resources such as:

  • Flight computer simulator;
  • HSI simulator;
  • Glide Distance slider, etc.

Forty hours of learning can quickly become monotonous, but with occasional jokes from Rod Machado, this course is winning the list of online private pilot courses.

Rod Machado’s pleasant presentation made the course more enjoyable.

You can check the video to glance at Rod Machado’s private pilot online course here.

FAA Private Pilot Ground School Part 61.

This course is not just for student pilots. Any pilot at any stage of their flight training can refer to this course as a refresher.

Many students prefer traditional style explanation on a whiteboard, and this course is just right for them.

The veteran instructor claims this course is not just to pass the exam but will develop proficient pilots.

I took the course and like the way this instructor teaches.

Traditional ground school learning might not be your thing, but for many, whiteboard explanation is best, unlike animated footage, to comprehend a subject.

The course comes in 5 parts, and I linked to Part 1 of this course. You will find links to the following sections at the end of the Part 1 course.

Part 6 is optional, and student pilots can access Part 6 by private messaging. Part 6 is a written endorsement from the instructor saying you are ready for the FAA private pilot written exam.

Many things will seem difficult to understand in your online private pilot ground school for a beginner.

Rewind and watch the sections you did not understand is one benefit of PPL online ground schools.

Physical private pilot ground school is not affordable for many. Ground instructors get paid hourly, and student pilots must pay extra if they intend to review a subject.

The quality of the videos and audio in this course is perfect, unlike videos from King’s school. Although the king schools course is excellent for acquiring knowledge, their video quality is a turn-off for many students.

Unlike the King School’s class, the Udemy course has HD quality videos.

Why do I like the course?

This course is an opportunity for students not trained in the USA to look at Federal Part 61 ground school.

Take pilot lessons from an FAA-certified flight instructor, and prepare yourself for the private pilot knowledge test from anywhere in the world.

Is this online pilot course not ideal for you?

Do not buy this course at the commercial pilot licensing stage or your ATPL.

This course teaches only the fundamentals and is excellent for student pilots. Similarly, rusty private pilots can use this course as a refresher.

King School’s Online Course.

King schools online private pilot ground school has different opinions from different student pilots.

It’s normal to see various opinions when a product has thousands of users.

John King and Martha King have forty years of experience in the aviation industry teaching and training pilots.

Without a doubt, the King School online private pilot ground school is one of the best courses out there. Anyone who picks this course for their PPL test preparation will pass the exam on their first take.

Regardless, an excellent instructor will not help you pass a knowledge test if you don’t study.

The critical aspect is a student pilot’s will and effort to learn.

What makes this course different from other online ground schools?

  • Jon King and Martha King has over 40 years of experience teaching and training pilots;
  • An enjoyable and engaging presentation of topics helps student pilots in vivid learning.
  • King school claims that they prepare pilots for the unexpected, whether in actual flight or the FAA Private Pilot knowledge test.

In my opinion, the video quality is the only downside of this online pilot course. The footage content is excellent, but the actual video quality is outdated.

Many student pilots complain about the quality of video that seems from the 80s.

Nevertheless, you can find detailed lessons and excellent techniques to remember specific tasks in this course. An abundance of technical information is available for students to consume.

Ultimately, it comes down to the student pilots whether they will select this course or not.

You can request a full refund within 30 days of your purchase if you don’t like the course materials.

Purchase this course, and you can access the King School aviation library.

Most PPL online courses today provide ample study materials. However, books alone are inadequate to attract student pilots to a course.

On the contrary, student pilots need tools to simulate tasks to clarify specific topics. Hence Rod Machado’s PPL eLearning stands out from other courses.

Let’s consider the pricing of King Schools ground school.

This course is the priciest online ground school among all other ppl ground school courses. Thus the best purchase is often in a bundle.

The bundle comes with:

  1. Private pilot test prep training;
  2. Lessons to prepare student pilots for their check-ride.

To buy the package, you have to count 600 USD.

After completing the course and passings the three practice tests with at least 70% pass marks, King school will issue an endorsement to take the FAA private pilot knowledge test.

Visit here to find more about the course: King School.

Instructors: John King & Martha King

Sporty’s Private Pilot Learn to fly.

If you did some research online, I guess by now you have already read about the sporty’s course.

Sporty’s learn to fly seems the most popular online private pilot ground school.

The condition that people refer to a single program means there is a reason behind that.

What is the reason?

Two excellent ground school courses online are:

  • Sporty’s learn to fly; and
  • King Schools test prep.

Student pilots pick any of these two and compare the courses.

Next, student pilots compare king School’s outdated-looking videos with Sporty’s excellent video quality.

Both Sporty’s and King school frequently update their content to provide up-to-date information.

But people are judgemental.

Once they watch the 80s video quality from King School’s, they can promptly think the king school program is outdated.

They think Sporty’s has up-to-date information in their course.

Comparing Sporty’s with Rod Machado’s eLearning will say that Sporty’s is not the best in the online PPL ground school industry.

Nevertheless, none of the courses I mention in this article is terrible. All of them are of excellent quality.

How about the pricing?

The cost makes a lot of difference too—Kings school Vs. Sporty’s course, the price is indeed a big difference.

Regardless, Sporty’s provides excellent quality training online.

Like any other ppl ground school, online sporty’s come with several resources to prepare for the ppl knowledge test.

Resources include:

  • Frequent updates of test questions database to prepare student pilots with all they need to pass the exam;
  • Document library containing books and PDF files that sporty’s claims worth more than 300 USD.

Another critical factor for the sporty’s online pilot course is including review notes for each video segment. Review notes are a significant advantage for student pilots.

Students will know which key things are essential in each chapter.

Type of materials.

Sporty’s created video materials combining video recordings in flight and animation for precise comprehension of student pilots.

Sporty includes lessons from inside an aircraft for student pilots to clarify subjects in a practical setting.

Once you purchase the course, you can have the system in several formats. Student pilots can study using smartphones, tablets, smart TV, and personal PCs.

You will have access to all the platforms by just paying once.

How Sporty’s course stands out from others?

The unique thing about this course is the test prep database. Sporty’s has 1000 questions for students to practice and a detailed explanation in clear English after answering a question.

CFI from sporty’s includes why an answer is right and wrong.

Instructors: Various Instructors from Sporty

  11. Cross-Country Flight Planning.

The best online pilot course is the one you find most suitable for you.

A pilot course may be outstanding for me but may not be helpful for you.

I may discover online pilot training very interesting. However, the same pilot lessons can be very dull for you.

Though individual student pilots’ preferences matter, I always tell my friends to pick a course from the Top 3 mentioned here.

I believe you have decided to get your pilot license and want a heads up on the ground school syllabus contents.

You want to know which subjects will be taught to you in the private pilot ground training or prepare by yourself. The section of this article will help you stay ahead of your pilot training batch mates.

Similarly, from here, you can evaluate whether you are good enough to start your private pilot training or not.

I have designed this private pilot ground school syllabus as a resource for anyone to guide themselves for private pilot training.

Before going for your first flight, you will learn all the subjects during your ground school training.

Use a syllabus as a guideline, study advance, and prepare before enrolling in a flight training institute.

A step-by-step guide includes the chapters of the Jeppesen Private Pilot textbook and the topics in those particular chapters most important for your private pilot training course.

To become a good pilot, you must always keep learning.

The sooner you master the basics, the better you will do in real-world flight training.

Pilot training with a job guarantee in the USA.

No Comments

Pilot training with a job guarantee in the USA is standard. The issue arises when an individual assumes to become an airline pilot after graduating from a flight school. As a fresh graduate from a professional pilot program and hardly 250 hours, one can’t get an airline pilot job.

Flight schools promising a job placement in the aviation industry don’t mean a job immediately after getting a commercial pilot license.

To get a job, one must wait and build hours first. It’s a gradual process. Let’s discuss the entire process here and how our pilot training program can benefit you in the long run.

What is a job placement by our flight school?

A job placement means the fight school will recommend a fresh graduate for their first commercial pilot job and help them with the interview process.

Some flight schools have an entire program that takes students from zero hours to an airline pilot. It’s not so common, and many students don’t choose this path for many reasons.

One reason to avoid this program could be the lengthy contract deal by airlines integrated into the program. The contracts can stretch from five years to 10 years. Are you willing to work for the same company for the rest of your life?

If that’s what you prefer, then nothing’s stopping you.

However, I prefer the second type of job guarantee many flight schools offer aspiring aviators.

Many flight schools offer certified flight instructor jobs to fresh graduates to build hours and get paid.

Our affiliated school in the USA guarantees jobs of the latter kind.

You can choose a flight school that aligns with your aviation goals.

If you are young and want to remain in an airline for years, the first career path is best.

However, we don’t have a career pilot job placement in our affiliated flight school.

Yet our affiliated flight school in the USA has a professional pilot program designed considering pilots willing to work in American airline operators.

Let’s dive deeper into what kind of job our flight school offers and how it can help you in your career.

In the USA, it’s required for a pilot to have at least 1500 hours before applying for a first officer position in any airline. All airlines in the United States require any pilot applying for the pilot job must have an ATPL.

To acquire an ATPL, a pilot must have 1500 hours. Can you see how one item connects to another?

On the contrary, in our professional pilot program, you will obtain:

  • Private pilot license;
  • Instrument Rating;
  • Commercial pilot license;
  • Certified flight instructor license;

So you may be thinking now, how can you get 1500 hours to apply for your first job?

Your first job doesn’t have to be an airline pilot job.

Our flight school gives opportunity to its graduates and a job guarantee to work as a CFI in the flight school and build 1500 flying hours.

It’s a gradual process. The mistake is when a student only comprehends half of the process.

Students from India, South Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, South Korea, or individuals with no aviation knowledge deem that airlines hire pilots fresh out from the flight school.

However, that’s not how the aviation industry works today. It may have been easier to get a job in airlines with 250 hours before decades.

A commercial pilot has around 250 hours fresh out from the flight school, and with 250 hours, it’s impossible to get a job in any airline today.

We cannot promise novice pilots graduating from our partnered flight school a guaranteed job in an airline. Our job is to guarantee our pilot training graduates a certified flight instructor job in our flight school.

Our professional pilot training program consists of 250 hours, and we prioritize our students to work with us.

A pilot can work for us as long as they want. But most pilots don’t continue working as a CFI once they accumulate 1500 hours.

Fresh from flight school, you can have a job that pays up to 2000 USD and build at least 80 hours every month.

It’s an excellent place to start for any pilots worldwide to work in the USA.

Although our job guarantee is not for an airline, a pilot who can accumulate 1500 hours through our system will inevitably find a job in any airline worldwide.

The best part is you don’t sign up for a lengthy contract for pilot training with a job guarantee.

In contrast, you are working with us; if you see a better opportunity to build hours, you can take the job and quit working as a CFI with us.

Though there are many exceptions, an exception cannot be an example.

To have a job placement is a standard way to get a pilot job today. However, it’s not the only option.

Working your way up gradually to build hours and without limiting yourself to one company for an extended period, you can choose pilot training with a CFI job guarantee in the USA with us.

Why is it crucial to enroll in a flight school with a job guarantee?

There are hundreds of pilots that are jobless today. A pilot often remains jobless for one mistake: Not joining a pilot training with a job guarantee.

It would be best to enroll in a flight school that offers an airline job placement or at least a job guarantee as a CFI.

Many things go wrong during pilot training, and you may quit aviation, but a typical example is this:

An individual willing to be a commercial airline pilot in the future starts pilot training without proper research.

They think there is a vacant airline position for anyone with a commercial pilot license.

But after a student completes the professional pilot program with 250 hours, they realize no airlines hire a pilot with so little experience. The airline in the USA requires 1500 hours, and Airlines in Asia require between 500 to 1000 hours. It’s already too late to comprehend such a piece of vital information. You already spent the money on pilot training, and now there is no job for you.

At this point, you think about how to build at least 1500 hours.

The first option most pilots have is becoming a Certified flight instructor (CFI). Unfortunately, the flight school you trained to become a pilot doesn’t offer a job guarantee as a CFI.

So at this stage, with 250 hours, you have to go out on a job hunt as a CFI.

Flight schools are reluctant to hire certified flight instructors that graduated from a different school. Likewise, not all flight schools require a new CFI, and many flight schools that hire don’t trust the CFI’s qualification from another flight school.

You will be in a stressful situation if the condition persists.

Looking for a CFI job to build hours can take years. Your commercial pilot license and certified flight instructor license will expire.

If you don’t have a job, it will be challenging for you to sustain life and much less for renewing your pilot licenses with money from your pocket.

This process is complex, and many pilots decide to quit aviation because they selected a flight school with no job guarantee.

Thus, I recommend aspiring pilots from India, South Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, and South Korea to consult for free with us before enrolling in any flight school.

At least discuss the possibilities of becoming a successful career pilot in the future, and we can prevent you from going down the wrong path.

What job guarantee can our company offer?

Our job guarantee is not for an airline right off the bat, but a system that prepares everyone for an airline pilot job in the shortest time and spends the least money.

At Pilots Elite, we don’t make false promises.

I explained the possibilities and the gradual system anyone can choose to become an airline pilot.

Your determination to become a pilot and consistently work your way up to the top would also play a massive role in your success.

It is crucial to enroll in a flight school with a job guarantee for your success. Nevertheless, no promise and system will be feasible if you are not determined to get what you want.

Who should select our pilot training program?

Our program is not suitable for everyone. Yet anyone is eligible to take flight lessons in our partnered school.

Younger pilots choose professional pilot programs with lengthy contracts. Pilots in their 20s don’t find it an issue to work for one company for ten years.

On the contrary, students who started late can join our program because of our tailored option. Our program offers opportunities for those unwilling to be bound in a limitation and try out different things before going to the airline.

Someone who wants to finish their pilot training program at their own pace is interested in our program. Students can choose to fly at their will if they think they are going too fast.

In the professional pilot programs, the students finish their training as quickly as possible as a contract binds them. They complete the activities within a specific time and move forward in their career path.

Likewise, a pilot on a tight budget can select our pilot training as it offers a job guarantee in the USA. If you are on a tight budget and obtain a commercial pilot license from a school that doesn’t guarantee a job, you will struggle to make a living abroad without income.

Hence, international students interested in working in the USA and experiencing a different culture can also select our program. We offer F1 visas to those who intend to work as a CFI.

Pilot training in the USA for Indian students.

No Comments

Pilot training in the USA for Indian students is standard, yet many Indians intending to go to the USA for pilot training are clueless about where to begin their journey.

Hence I dived deep into this topic here to aid Indian students to enroll in American flight schools.

  • Why do many Indians choose to train in American flight schools?
  • What is the cost of pilot training in the USA compared to India?
  • Does the living cost play a role in your pilot training budget as an international student in the USA?
  • Where would you prefer to work as a pilot in the future?
  • Why are there more work opportunities in the USA as a fresh graduate?
  • Will you be truly ready for your first airline job in India as a novice pilot from the USA?
  • Can our DGCA compliant training program help you get a job in the USA and globally?

I answered the most frequently asked questions around this topic, and if you have any other questions, you can leave us a message by commenting later.

Why do many Indians choose to train in American flight schools?

The number one reason is it takes a lot less time to get all the pilot licenses in the USA than in India. In India, it may take four years to get a commercial pilot license, and in the USA, the same license you can get only in 12 months to 16 months.

Getting your pilot license sooner means starting your job hunt quicker and making a living sooner as a commercial pilot.

I can’t tell that the education quality of Indian flight schools is poor. However, everyone agrees that flight schools in the USA provide the most competitive education quality to build competent pilots.

Therefore, a pilot with an American pilot license has wide acceptance globally.

Another reason for Indian students to apply for pilot training in the USA is many students want to pursue a career abroad. With a wide array of opportunities to work in the aviation Industry, Indians prefer to live and work in the USA.

If an Indian gain adequate work experience abroad and get back to India to work as a pilot, it’s also a viable option. There is no restriction on American pilots to work overseas as long as they convert their license and are competent for the job.

However, to become a better pilot, you must choose a flight school with a good reputation for training pilots.

Indians may blindly believe that all flight schools are good in the USA. However, that’s not the case. There are hundreds of flight schools and flying clubs in the USA, and it can be tricky to select an excellent flight school among them just by trusting a fancy website of the company online. Before enrolling in an American flight school as an international student, one must consider numerous factors.

What is the cost of pilot training in the USA compared to India?

The cost of pilot training in the USA is inexpensive. If you compare the price of pilot training with the cost of flight schools in India, you may find there are not many differences.

In reality, the cost of living abroad as an Indian student makes a significant difference in the expense of pilot training abroad.

There are several factors to consider as an Indian pilot training student in the USA. The pilot training cost may be similar in American and Indian flight schools. But the duration of the training might be three times longer in India than in the USA.

Understand that getting pilot licenses and preparing yourself for the airline quicker is essential. Consistently working on your goals is necessary rather than waiting for years just because you want to save some money.

On the contrary, you will spend more money to become a pilot if your training is unnecessarily delayed. It’s a different topic for another article. But prolonging your pilot training can affect the lessons you learn and need extra training to become perfect. As a result, your overall training expense rises.

Hence pilot training in the USA sounds pricier for Indian students on the surface, but in reality, the cost is the same, if not lesser.

Does the living cost play a role in your pilot training budget as an international student in the USA?

As I said, prolonging the training duration can cost you more money in the long run. It is wiser to finish pilot training as early as possible.

Most flight schools in the USA promise that an international student can accumulate 200 hours with a commercial pilot license and instrument rating in 12 months.

Let’s say you couldn’t get your pilot licenses within 12 months. It may take extra six months for you to accumulate 200 hours and pass all the exams to get a commercial pilot license.

Getting a commercial pilot license in the USA as an Indian student in 18 months is more than adequate. Most students get their pilot license within 12 to 14 months. Many reasons can affect this duration, but trust that if you take 18 months to get your license in the USA, it won’t be the fault of your flight school. Taking 18 months to complete your pilot training in the USA may result from a student being lazy or not progressing like a typical student.

Now that we have pointed out how long it may take for an Indian student to get all the licenses in the USA, we can determine the cost of living for 18 months in the USA. Eighteen months is the maximum budget you should allocate for your pilot training duration in the USA.

Some flight schools offer dormitories. However, it is convenient to share apartments or houses with other student pilots in the vicinity of the flight school.

As an Indian student, if you share the accommodation with other Indian students, you can benefit in multiple ways.

If you prepare meals regularly at home, it wouldn’t cost you more than 200 USD in a month.

The cost of shared housing and utility bills won’t surpass 600 dollars.

So as an Indian pilot training student in the USA, you can have a monthly budget of 1000 USD in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The housing is not far from our flight school, and you can have a bike ride daily to travel between house and airport.

This 18,000 USD seems a lot for Indian students to allocate for living expenses in the USA. However, if you have the vision of becoming a pilot and start working quickly, this 18,000 USD is not so much to consider in the long run.

Speaking of which brings to my next point: Your willingness to work abroad as a pilot.

Where would you prefer to work as a pilot in the future?

If you intend to work in India as a commercial pilot, you can train in India to become a pilot.

If you decide that you will work overseas and enjoy a different lifestyle and culture, I recommend enrolling in an American flight school.

If you wish to live in the USA and pursue a career as a pilot, the best place to start is by admission to an American flight school.

There are many opportunities for Indians and international students to work as a pilot in the USA if they can fulfill their requirements.

The requirement to become an airline pilot in an American airline is having 1500 flight hours.

It seems incoherent to accumulate 1500 hours to get an airline job. But there are ways to build hours after getting your commercial pilot license in the USA.

As I said, America is a land of opportunity for those who patiently work hard.

If you choose to work in India after completing pilot training in the USA, you can return to India and convert your license to an Indian pilot license. Nevertheless, getting your first airline job in India is never as straightforward as in the USA. The airline hiring procedure is complicated in India and takes years before getting your first job.

By obtaining licenses from American flight schools, you will open doors to opportunities globally.

Training to be a pilot in the USA as an Indian student is like investing money for your future. I recommend investing money for pilot training in the USA to open more doors of opportunities instead of training in India and keep your chances limited to one place.

Why are there more work opportunities in the USA as a fresh graduate?

Flight schools in the USA are likely to hire fresh graduates as their certified flight instructors. On the contrary, fresh graduates can’t get a flight instructor job in India after graduation.

A pilot must obtain a certified flight instructor license to get a certified flight instructor job.

Most flight schools in the USA have a tailored program for Indian pilot students and often include a certified flight instructor license.

It is common for the same flight school to hire their CFI graduates to work and train future students because flight schools are willing to help novice pilots to build hours.

Beginner pilots with 250 hours of flying time can’t meet airline hiring requirements, and it would take time to get a job in general aviation.

However, American flight schools offer this opportunity to their graduates to at least earn some money while they are working on their dreams.

Usually, a certified flight instructor can earn 1000 to 2000 USD a month and log 80 hours monthly.

Working as a certified flight instructor is not your only option. There are many other jobs available for new commercial pilots in the USA for Indian pilots.

Nevertheless, the safest place to start is by becoming a certified flight instructor as there will be no restrictions on your visa, and your flight school will assist you.

Will you be truly ready for your first airline job in India as a novice pilot from the USA?

Assuming you finished your pilot training in India and have 250 hours. At this point, you have a commercial pilot license without a job guarantee.

Regardless of where you finish your pilot training getting your first pilot job is challenging.

So you’re mistaken if you believe you can make a living after you graduate from your pilot training in India.

To make things easier for new pilots, I recommend training in the USA. You have numerous opportunities with 250 hours and a commercial pilot license, which are unavailable in India. The pay may not be suitable in such pilot jobs, but it’s a great way to build hours.

Building hours are essential to get an airline pilot job.

If you choose Indian flight schools, you don’t have the option to work in the USA, and finding a job will be very challenging in India. Considering you finished your pilot training in India, it’s unlikely to get a job with 250 hours of flying experience. Similarly, your scope to build hours after graduating from India is minimum. Either you pay to build hours or wait for years until you get a job. In both ways, you will spend too much extra money.

Our partnered flight school in the USA offers jobs to novice pilots so that these pilots can build hours to find work anywhere around the world. Though you can’t have an airline job immediately after getting your commercial pilot license in America, you can start working to build hours and earn something.

Can our DGCA compliant training program help you get a job in the USA and globally?

DGCA has slightly different conditions than FAA requires to become a commercial pilot. Our partnered pilot training school in the USA has a tailored program to comply with DGCA requirements for Indian students. Thus, our commercial pilot program offers a great flying experience for Indian students and an easy conversion procedure in India.

With the FAA pilot license and the education standard of our flight school, you’re eligible to go anywhere in the world and convert your pilot licenses.

How long is commercial pilot school?

No Comments

Most of my readers desire to quickly get a commercial pilot license and become an airline pilot soon.

However, none of you know much about how long is the commercial pilot school.

The purpose of a commercial pilot school is to train you and aid you in obtaining a commercial pilot license. Nevertheless, you’re not ready to get your airline pilot job as a fresh graduate of commercial pilot school.

I know it doesn’t sound obvious.

Continue reading, and you’ll understand what I mean. I broke down this post into several sections:

  • How long is commercial pilot school?;
  • What circumstances can prolong your commercial pilot schooling period?;
  • Do you think you are ready to work after twelve months of training?

The commercial pilot school takes between 12 months to 18 months. Typically, four months to get a PPL, three months for an Instrument rating, and 6 Months to obtain a CPL —13 months to finish commercial pilot school for a full-time student. Eighteen months is the maximum someone could squander in a commercial pilot school.

However, understand this becoming a commercial pilot will only take you closer to becoming an airline pilot. But the journey doesn’t end here. You must put more effort and time until you reach your aviation goals.

How long is commercial pilot school?

Commercial pilot schools’ job is to train student pilots and help them obtain a commercial pilot license.

Obtaining a commercial pilot license requires actual flying hours and passing knowledge tests with good grades to prove you can become a professional pilot in the future.

Most flight schools or commercial pilot schools have structured courses for students.

In this post, we will take flight schools in the USA and FAA requirements to become a commercial pilots.

A structured course in a commercial pilot school consists of at least three different steps and at least 200 hours of flying time.

STEP 1: The first step is to get a Private pilot license which takes around four months. During these four months, the student pilot completes private pilot ground school, passes the FAA knowledge test, and typically acquires 55 flying hours.

STEP 2: The second step is to obtain an instrument rating. Instrument flying knowledge is overwhelming and challenging for student pilots. Though you fly roughly 35 hours, the training takes around 3 to four months. You will have instrument ground classes, simulator training, actual instrument flights in IFR conditions, and pass FAA knowledge tests during this period.

By now, you have accumulated 90 flying hours in your preferred aircraft.

STEP 3: The next step is to build flying hours for your commercial pilot license. According to FAA, a student must fly at least 200 hours from Part 141 flight school to get their commercial pilot license. Flying 110 hours to accumulate 200 hours takes approximately six months. These six months of training includes:

  • Commercial pilot ground classes;
  • Flight training;
  • Passing the FAA knowledge test and the Checkride;

The total duration to obtain a commercial pilot license is 13 months if you are a full-time student.

This timeframe is applicable for students training in Part 141 structured course. The timeframe to finish the course in Part 61 modular system differs from a Part 141 course.

Commercial pilot schools in the USA have structured training courses for obtaining a commercial pilot license and advertise that a full-time student can graduate within 12 months.

Getting a commercial pilot license within 12 months is doable. But multiple circumstances affect the pilot training period, which I will explain in the next section.

What circumstances can prolong your commercial pilot schooling period?

Multiple factors can alter the time you spend on your commercial pilot training.

Your study progress in flight school.

Although you enroll in a commercial pilot school and expect to get your licenses in the next 12 months, your progress will significantly affect how quickly or slowly you get your pilot licenses.

Understand this, commercial pilot school’s structured courses are fast-paced. For new students, the entire training is overwhelming.

You learn aeronautics, aviation communication, navigation, operational procedures, and airplane systems in a short time. Therefore many students prefer to take it slow and procrastinate during their training.

As a result, they waste a few more months in commercial pilot school.

Taking a bit longer than others is not a bad thing. If you want to learn slowly but accurately, you should do that if it works for you.

Instead of competing with other students to finish training quickly, take time to learn slowly and dominate at what you do.

The location of your flight school’s aerial operations is a factor.

Secondly, the geolocation of the commercial pilot school can alter the time you spend on pilot training. If the weather in your flight school’s area is often adverse or gloomy, you will usually have training flights canceled.

Student pilots have restrictions in flying into bad weather. It is crucial to choose a flight school in a location where the weather is good, at least for 11 months in a year. If the commercial pilot school is in an area that snows two months and has low visibility conditions for six months, you can expect to delay your pilot training. You will waste years only getting your commercial pilot license in a location like that.

A commercial pilot school without airworthy aircraft delays training.

Choosing a commercial pilot school that doesn’t have adequate aircraft in their fleet in coordination with the number of students, then your pilot training will take longer. Weeks will pass waiting for your turn to get flight schedule if the school has to accommodate numerous students in a limited number of airplanes for flight training.

Procrastinating and going on long vacations delays pilot training for many.

Lastly, if you intentionally delay your commercial pilot training by taking vacations during your course. It’s common for student pilots to take a break after getting their private pilot licenses. Often, the students anticipate the leave for two months, and it turns out that they spend six months in their home country. There are possibilities that international students will take a break back home for a couple of months.

Due to this reason, many students fall behind ad takes longer than a year to obtain a commercial pilot license.

Do you think you are ready to work after twelve months of training?

Most of you are here to know whether you are ready to work as an airline pilot after twelve to eighteen months of training. The answer is no, and you are not there yet.

As I said, the job of a commercial pilot school is to train you properly and ultimately obtain a commercial pilot license. But to work in the USA as an airline pilot, you need at least 1500 actual flying hours. This hour requirement varies outside the USA, but no major airlines hire fresh graduates of commercial pilot school with 200 hours.

To build 1500 hours from 200 hours would take another two years. You can work as a Certified flight instructor or a charter pilot during this time. The pay for this kind of pilot job is not satisfying. However, the perks of such professions are to build hours without spending a dime from your pocket.

You can finish commercial pilot school within twelve to eighteen months.

If you enroll in a reputed flight school in the USA, you will quickly earn your commercial pilot license.

A flight school can significantly affect how soon you finish your pilot training. Likewise, the school’s location plays a role in the training period.

Lastly, a student can take years after years only to get a commercial pilot license. It depends on you how you choose to progress in your profession.

Nevertheless, you are not prepared to take an airline pilot job after getting your commercial pilot license. You have to work your way up to fulfill airline hiring requirements.

What qualifications do you need to become a pilot?

No Comments

Let me break the ice: You can become a pilot without solid educational background. It’s more important to have a flying experience to qualify as an airline pilot.

The information I share in this article will help many aspiring aviators pursue their dream of becoming airline pilots. Many students plan to fly airplanes for a living but give up on their dream because they don’t understand what qualifications they need to become a pilot.

Your flight experience should be your priority and then your aeronautical knowledge to become a pilot.

At least 1500 hours is the minimum requirement to qualify for an American airline job. Many global airlines also accept pilots with 500 hours. The drawback with 500 hours is that the airline may think you are not ready for the job without a bachelor’s degree.

Sounds confusing? To clarify the matters, I divided this article into two sections for you to determine whether you are qualified to enroll in a flight school and become a pilot or not.

  • What academic qualifications do you need to become a pilot?
  • What aviation qualification do you need to become a pilot?

There is online information available on the subject, but I want to add more detail about the issue for those utterly unaware of the qualifications to become a pilot.

What academic qualifications do you need to become a pilot?

To become a pilot, you must first get your pilot license. A pilot license allows you to fly airplanes as the pilot in command.

To get your pilot license, you must enroll in a flight school. The flight school can be anywhere. You can select a school in the USA, Canada, or perhaps South Africa.

Different flight schools have additional eligibility requirements.

A flight school in the USA can ask you to present your High School certificate before enrollment. A high school certificate is equivalent to GCSE A’ Level in the United Kingdom and Higher Secondary Certificate in India.

However, many flight schools in the USA don’t ask for academic certificates.

To become a private pilot, one must be at least be 17 years old. By the time anyone is 17 years old, they passed their 10th grade, equivalent to O’ Level in the United Kingdom and Secondary School certificate in India.

Thus if you have at least passed your tenth grade, you can find a suitable flight school to start your pilot training in the USA. Enrolling in a reputed flight school may require a High School diploma, yet many flight schools accept students without a fuss.

You will learn how to operate airplanes safely and obtain your pilot license in the flight school. The vital aspect is to build flying hours.

Actual flying hours matter most to get accepted in an airline. The more flying experience you have, the more competent you are. Thus in the next section, I will discuss what flying qualifications you need to become a pilot.

What aviation qualification do you need to become a pilot?

You must obtain multiple pilot licenses before qualifying for an airline pilot job.

After you enroll in a flight school, the first step would be to get a student pilot license. A student pilot license allows you to start your flight training.

After you start your flight training, you will gradually obtain the following licenses:

  • A private pilot license;
  • An instrument rating;
  • A commercial pilot license;
  • A certified flight instructor license.

It may seem like too much to acquire, but all flight schools have a professional pilot training program that includes all these four steps.

Most pilots log roughly 250 hours by the time they complete their professional pilot program.

However, you are not qualified for an airline pilot job with 250 hours.

Airlines in the USA require pilots to have at least 1500 flying hours before accepting any job application.

Many airlines in Asia and Africa accept pilots with a minimum of 500 hours.

So with 250 hours and a commercial pilot license, you are not yet ready to become an airline pilot.

Your Certified flight instructor (CFI) license will be advantageous at this stage. You can start working as a CFI. Flight schools in the USA frequently hire their graduates as CFI to teach new student pilots.

Although you are not working as an airline pilot, you can build hours and simultaneously get paid for your time as a CFI.

It’s common for fresh graduates to work as a CFI until they accumulate 1500 hours.

You have to gradually work your way up to the top and qualify as a competent airline pilot like any other profession.

The entire process takes time. From zero hours to becoming an airline pilot may take years.

To graduate from flight school with 250 hours may take only two years.

Things you should know before buying Rod Machado’s Ground School.

No Comments

A student pilot’s priority is to pass the private pilot license knowledge test and obtain the license quickly.

In this post, let me tell you why Rod Machado’s ground school courses are one of the best for student pilots.

I broke down this post into three sections:

  • What should you expect from a PPL ground school;
  • What would you get by subscribing to Rod Machado’s ground school course;
  • How did I use Rod’s private pilot ground school course to excel in my PPL exam?

Use Rod Machado’s ground school not only to ace your PPL exam but implement techniques you learn from the course in actual flight training.

What should you expect from a PPL ground school?

Student pilots often fail their FAA private pilot knowledge test due to a lack of knowledge. Though a student pilot can have multiple attempts to pass the FAA knowledge test, it’s always better to pass on your first try.

A ground school aims to teach you all the necessary information to answer any question from your knowledge.

Before enrolling in a ground school, you must learn about the ground school instructor. An experienced instructor can articulate information better than others. Without a good ground instructor, all the new aeronautical information will be overwhelming to grasp.

A ground school instructor like Rod Machado is not monotonous and makes learning entertaining.

If you are bored while learning aeronautical information, you will likely give up studying. If it is hard to follow your ground school lessons, you might miss crucial details. As a result, you will have poor flight training experience.

Having a ground school with separate video clips of each lesson is essential so that you can jump into any section you missed or need review.

Next, an online ground school must endorse students at the end of the course so that the student can register for the FAA private pilot knowledge test.

Lastly, lifetime access with one-time payment is necessary. If you subscribe to a course and have access only for a year, you can’t refresh your knowledge in the future as required.

A private pilot ground school contains fundamentals of flying and aeronautics, and it’s good to have access to foundational information anytime you want to revise.

Unlike physical ground school, you have access to Rod Machado’s ground school online whenever you want, and from any device you want. Access the aeronautical knowledge if you are a rusty pilot five years from now. And the best part, you only paid once for all the benefits.

What would you get by subscribing to Rod Machado ground school?

Rod Machado frequently updates the ground school to stay current with the latest FAA regulation.

As a student pilot training in the USA or a rusty pilot, you will know the latest regulations. Likewise, Rod Machado updates the course following the newest Airman certification standards.

Knowing the latest regulations and Airman Certification Standards, you don’t need to worry about the newest question in the FAA knowledge test. You would be ready to answer any question relevant to the latest FAA question bank.

Rod Machado’s private pilot ground school is not only to prepare for theory.

You will learn a lot about actual flying. By learning about accurate flight during ground school, you can implement the knowledge to become a competent pilot at flight.

Practical flights can be challenging and often require extra hours for a novice pilot to grasp everything.

Spending more hours is a common problem among student pilots, and many quit flying due to this reason. Flying fewer hours means you won’t spend more money on actual flights. This ground school may save a few hours in flight training by learning about flight skills during theory lessons.

Participate in quizzes to test your knowledge.

Online courses are designed to pass the FAA private pilot knowledge test and include tests within the system to check your aeronautical knowledge. Rod Machado’s ground school is no different.

After each section, you will have a quiz and a comprehensive quiz after each module.

Every time you finish a module, you can test your intelligence using the quiz. You can point out where you lack and go back to your specific lessons to revise.

Practice multiple-choice questions similar to FAA’s exams from an early stage. It is crucial to practice answering multiple-choice questions to know what you will face during your FAA exam.

Rod Machado also included an eWorkbook with this ground school.

The workbook contains over 1800 questions for you to practice. You can purchase the workbook separately for 19 USD. However, the book is free with Rod Machado’s ground school.

Many students failed their FAA knowledge test because they didn’t practice answering multiple-choice questions adequately. So with this ground school course and eWorkbook, I say you would pass your test on your first attempt.

Use the book to practice answering the FAA knowledge exam questions within the time limit. The more you practice, the intenser you will get with time management during your FAA private pilot knowledge test.

What is better than learning from a pioneer in the aviation industry?

Imagine how much you would spend to take Rod Machado’s instructions in person. Instead, you get 40+ hours of ground and flight instruction from a veteran flight instructor without spending thousand of dollars.

The 40+ hours ground school includes a lot of lessons. Rod Machado claims that the entire course is equivalent to the classes for one semester of an Aviation Degree. Most online ground school courses are around 25 hours. Though the course is lengthy, Rod Machado’s ground school is detailed and teaches every aspect of flying.

I don’t mean Rod Machado is better than others, but I say the course is more detailed than other ground school courses. Similarly, the free books you get with this course will help further studies. With all the resources, you can be a competent pilot.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how good your resources are. If you don’t practice adequately, you can’t be good at what you do.

Thus, Rod Machado, a pioneer flight instructor, designed this course for pilots to learn, practice, and revise.

You can find each lesson jump to the section right away to revise what you need.

Rod Machado’s ground school will save you time, and you can access the course from any device with an internet connection. Study in your free time if you are a part-time pilot.

Learning has to be fun. Otherwise, students lose interest, and education becomes difficult. Rod Machado has a reputation for being humorous and making learning fun and interactive.

The comprehensive animated videos are fun to watch and quickly obtain precise information.

You will get an endorsement from Rod Machado to take your FAA knowledge test.

After you finish all the lessons and pass all the tests within the ground school, you will get certification from Rod Machado. An endorsement is necessary to take the FAA knowledge test to verify that you have sufficient ground training and aeronautical knowledge.

Get lifetime access to the course and other resources at an affordable price.

As a pilot, you may need a refresher once in a while. Perhaps you want to revise a lesson after five years. You can log in with your credentials and study as you will forever with lifetime access.

Best private pilot refresher course online.

No Comments

Are you going back to flying after years? I suppose it’s been a while that your private pilot license expired.

A perfect private pilot refresher course will bring you back on track, whether you are back in general aviation after a decade or merely to refresh your flying skills. Though studying after a long time requires some practice, the ideal system saves time.

Hence, I listed the refresher courses online for all private pilots:

Perhaps before a decade, it was not as easy as today to do a PPL refresher course online. However, today the private pilot refresher materials are available for all iOS and Android devices.

Use Rod Machado’s online rusty pilot collection as a private pilot refresher.

Rod Machado has a reputation for creating excellent resources for pilots. Being a veteran flight instructor, he has outstanding articulating skills for student pilots.

Though his rusty pilot collection is not a dedicated online private pilot refresher course, buying the correct book and short courses from the collection can take you ahead of most current pilots.

Rod Machado’s rusty pilot collection courses are also great for any private pilot. Especially Rod’s 40 hours private pilot eLearning course is excellent for passing FAA private pilot knowledge test.

But as you are looking for a PPL refresher, purchasing an entire PPL ground school is unnecessary.

As a private pilot renewing your license, you need to be aware of:

  • The latest Civil Aviation regulations;
  • Different kinds of airspace and operational procedures within the airspace; and
  • Understand essential cross-country flying skills.

You are knowledgeable of the aeronautical information mentioned in the forty-hour course. Regardless, if you need complete lessons for the private pilot license, purchase the private pilot eLearning course.

I wouldn’t buy the entire forty-hour course as a private pilot myself for my refresher. I would buy the private pilot handbook by Rod Machado and study at home. Sometimes reading is a better way to refresh your mind of the knowledge you already have. Use this book to read and learn to prepare yourself for your private pilot license renewal or refresher.

The flight review eLearning bundle within the Rusty pilot’s collection is the only course I recommend buying for private piot license renewal. The bundle is less pricey and includes the superior materials essential for safe flight operations after a long time. Additionally, you can purchase a couple of short courses at a reasonable price from Rod’s Rusty pilot collection.

The bundle consists of two sections:

  • Federal Aviation Regulations;
  • Understanding Airspace by Rod Machado.

You can buy these two courses separately but buying these two courses in a bundle is less pricey.

To summarize, I would say that if I were going back to flying after several years, I would buy the forty hours course.

But as a pilot preparing for the renewal of the license or only to improve my aviation knowledge, I would buy the book and read it thoroughly.

If I were planning to improve my flying skills and boost my existing knowledge, I would buy the book and the flight review bundle.

If you want to go through the entire rusty collection, check here.

Sporty’s rusty pilot kit.

Sporty’s has been in the teaching business for decades now. They also build a reputation by creating excellent online resources for pilots.

If you take the FAA private pilot knowledge test, they have an online ground course that also endorses students for the knowledge test.

However, pilots outside the USA can access Sporty’s online courses to prepare for their private pilot license exam.

Sporty’s also has an excellent Rusty pilot course, which is second on my preferred list of refresher courses.

The sporty’s course has two different sections:

  • VFR communications online course;
  • Flight review online course.

The first section of VFR communication is a 60 minutes course that allows rusty pilots to refresh aviation communication knowledge.

Although proper communication is crucial for the safety of flight operations, pilots forget aviation communication quickly.

Flight communication can create confusion between the pilot and the air traffic controller, leading to fatalities. Thus to prevent any air crashes or confusion while operating the airplane, it is best to practice proper communication.

If you are a pilot who completely forgot how to communicate in the air, I recommend purchasing Sporty’s rusty pilot course.

This course has a dedicated 60 mins to improve air communication of pilots to ensure safe operations in the sky and on the ground.

Pilots never forget flying entirely. Most pilots forget only parts of aeronautical knowledge.

If I go back to flying after years, I will purchase Sporty’s rusty pilot collection to practice communication. You can also find this VFR communication course separately on Sporty’s website.

Likewise, The rusty pilot collection by Sporty’s includes a flight review course.

This section can review flight operations by watching animated videos and video footage from the actual flight.

You don’t have to get back to flying to improve your rusty flying skills. Your new journey can start from sporty’s rusty pilot’s course—this section is suitable for any pilot at any stage to refresh their stick and rudder flying skills.

Gleim pilot refresher course.

I won’t pick a Gleim refresher course if I go back to flying after decades. After years of being outside aviation, I would need a complete system to become a safer pilot.

Hence, I would select a course like Rod Machado’s forty-hour eLearning course to recall entire private pilot studies.

However, not everyone is equal. As I mentioned, someone who needs attention for VFR communication can choose Sporty’s rusty pilot collection.

On the contrary, someone who needs to address issues around a specific aircraft must purchase the Gleim pilot refresher course.

 For instance, a pilot must understand the aircraft he is flying before taking off. A pilot not paying attention to minor changes or details of the plane can lead to problems in the flight.

The Gleim refresher course emphasized aircraft weight and balance, airplane performance and limitations, and flight emergencies to ensure safety for rusty pilots operating an aircraft.

King School’s Return to VFR flying.

Among all the rusty pilot courses on my list, King School’s course is the priciest one.

There is probably a reason for the price because this course is a dedicated course by veteran flight instructor John King for rusty pilots getting back inside the cockpit.

What is a refresher course?

A refresher course is essential for those who already have aeronautical knowledge but must refresh their minds and recall the existing knowledge. Most pilots don’t need entire lessons from their PPL ground school. A rusty pilot needs a summary of all the aeronautical subjects and prepares themselves for safe flights.

Therefore the King School’s rusty pilot collection is an excellent choice because the course seems like a compiled summary of each aeronautical subject. Though it’s a bit pricey, John King and Martha King did their best to prepare rusty pilots to get back in the sky as soon as possible.

A pilot is flying an aircraft and needs to be aware of many other things to conduct safe flights. Thus the king schools course also contains subjects that matter for aeronautical decision-making.

Most of the online courses are good. But different pilots have different opinions. Every pilot has a unique way of learning. Hence they give a positive statement about their preferred instructor. A student’s preferred instructor is always the teacher whom an individual student understands better than the others.

I always liked Rod Machado’s teaching style. But if a private pilot wants to refresh his communication skills, he would pick the Sporty’s rusty collection to become better at VFR flying.

How much is flight school?

No Comments

For pilot training, students enroll in flight schools. However, you can become a victim of fraud without prior knowledge of how much flight school is. In this post, you will know the cost of each step for pilot training.

Understanding how much flight school costs and each step of licensing, you can save yourself from paying extra.

Likewise, students unaware of the costs associated with flight school often run out of budget and delay their flight training.

So to save yourself from paying extra and delaying your pilot training program, you must comprehend the following:

  • How much is the cost of Private pilot training?;
  • How much is the Instrument rating?;
  • How much is a Commercial pilot license?;
  • The cost of a professional pilot program;
  • Which other expenses are associated with pilot training and flight school?

The cost of flight school is approximately 55,000 USD. The fee includes a Private Pilot License, an Instrument Rating, and a Commercial pilot license. This price will vary depending on the flight school. You at least need 55,000 USD to enroll in a USA flight school for a professional pilot course. The accommodation and exam fees are additional costs.

At first, it is confusing for newbies because they think, why do they need multiple licenses to become a pilot.

Obtaining a private pilot license and an instrument rating is part of getting a commercial pilot license. Having an instrument rating at an early stage helps you to save money during the professional pilot program.

Thus, when a flight school quotes fees for the professional pilot training course, they mean the cost of all three licenses.

One can obtain only a Private Pilot License (PPL) depending on a person’s need. But a PPL restricts you from working.

Professional pilot courses are there to build competent pilots.

This course is structured to build airline pilots, and you must have at least 55,000 USD before you take your first step towards your goals.

How much is the cost of private pilot training?

A private pilot license is the most straightforward license for any pilot. A private pilot license is like having a non-professional driver’s license.

You can have a private pilot license and operate from one destination to another. You can fly with friends and family, but you can’t accept payments for being the pilot in command.

To obtain this license, you only need around 55 hours of flight training, which is adequate to conduct safe flights in smaller aircraft.

The pilot training cost is proportional to the number of hours you fly.

You need around 55 hours of training for a private pilot license, and it will cost approximately 15,000 USD. This fee includes actual flight training, ground school costs, and simulator costs.

After this step, get your Instrument rating.

How much is the instrument rating?

You will learn to fly using the aircraft’s instrument panel during instrument rating without outside visual references.

It’s a critical phase of flight training, and student pilots find this training the most challenging. The instrument rating is essential to become a professional pilot and operate safe flights in any weather conditions.

The total cost of flying for an instrument rating is roughly 13,000 USD.

You’ll train in an instrument-rated aircraft and also in simulators. The 13,000 USD price tag includes 37 hours of actual flying, 40 hours of ground schooling, and simulator training sessions.

Now that you have an instrument rating and private pilot license, it’s time to build hours for your commercial pilot license application.

Before going on to the next step, let’s calculate how much you spent on flight school fees.

  1. Private pilot license = 15,000 USD
  2. Instrument Rating = 13,000 USD

Total fees are 28,000 USD, and now you have approximately 90 hours.

How much is a commercial pilot license?

For a commercial pilot license in the USA, FAA requires the pilot to have at least 200 hours total actual flying time.

Now that you have 90 hours logged as an instrument-rated private pilot, you have to build additional 110 hours to full fill FAA requirements for commercial pilot license application.

To fly and log additional 110 hours will cost around 25,000 USD.

Now, let’s break down the total cost of getting a commercial pilot license with an instrument rating from zero hours.

  1. Private Pilot License (55 hours) = 15,000 USD
  2. Instrument rating (37 hours) = 13,000 USD
  3. Commercial Pilot License (110 hours) = 25,000 USD
  4. Total 202 Hours = 53,000 USD

Do you see how you fulfilled FAA requirements by flying at least 200 hours and getting your commercial pilot license with an instrument rating?

Many people in the aviation industry complicate things because there is not much online information.

How much is the cost of the professional pilot program in flight schools?

The cost I mentioned above is the approximate cost of a professional pilot program. The professional pilot program must include:

  • A Private pilot license;
  • An Instrument rating;
  • A Commercial pilot license.

The rough estimate of 55,000 USD must also include all the flight instructor fees and the ground schooling fees.

Suppose a flight school tells you to pay extra for ground school and flight instruction; keep away from them. Flight schools sometimes oversell materials to make a profit; however, in any flight school, the entire cost will be similar to the fees I mentioned in this article.

The cost of ground school actual flying and flight instruction for a commercial pilot license with an instrument rating wouldn’t exceed 55,000 USD.

Which other expenses are associated with pilot training and flight school?

Now that getting a commercial pilot license with an instrument rating is out of the way let’s discuss some other costs you have to settle.

As an international student in the USA, you need a place to stay. Some flight schools provide accommodation, but the housing fees are sometimes inexpensive outside school accommodation. Choose whatever option is best fr you.

As a student, you need books and your headset. You can always find used books and headsets online available to save some.

Lastly, there are examination fees in the FAA and DPE fees for checkride.

These other costs are inexpensive, and you must consider these expenses outside of your professional pilot training program fees.

The flight hours requirements for a commercial pilot license in Asia differ from the USA, and the price varies accordingly. The price quotes I used in this post are for flight schools in the USA. These price quotes are irrelevant for flight schools in Europe or Asia.
