maxresdefault 1200x675 - Flying with Passengers - the good, the bad and the barfing - beyond Flight Training - ATC audio

After earning our pilot's licence, the first thing most of us do is take our first passenger .
However, I think passenger management is something that the primary training does not address very well.

I'm just a private pilot offering some humble thoughts, but most of what I've learned about how to handle passengers (beyond the basic "passenger briefing") has come from figuring it out along the way through experiences, as opposed to training.

helpful discussion thread on reddit when I was researching this one:

Typical / basic Px briefing:
(I can edit this as additional tips and thoughts come in via the comments)

– Doors/Windows: how to use them
– Seatbelts: how to use them
(and make sure seat is locked in place, do not grab controls if your seat does happen to slide back.)
– Controls: Do not touch them while I am in control
(If you'd like to try flying, we can do so at a safe altitude)
– heat / air vents: how they work, and let me know at any time if you are uncomfortable
– Cockpit: Sterile cockpit environment when taking off and landing/taxing
– While in the air tell me if you see an other plane
(if you see one before me you get $5)
– No Smoking, show location of fire extinguisher, first aid kit and sick bags
– in the unlikely event of an emergency, please stay calm and follow my instructions
(describe ELT and how it works)
– Questions?
(And feel free to ask additional questions at any time, but if I raise my finger it means I am listing to air traffic control, so please stop talking at that time.

DISCLAIMER: I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial.I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience – I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve…. Having the cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feed back is invited; however, please keep it positive
